Healthier Hens, Better Eggs: Our Solar Mobile Shelters
At the heart of our farming system are the mobile solar shelters we designed ourselves. These clever shelters move across fresh pasture, giving each new flock clean ground and a stress-free environment. Powered completely by the sun, they regulate lighting, feeding, nesting, temperature and even free-range access—allowing our hens to live naturally, roam freely and stay healthy without relying on antibiotics.
Happier hens lay better eggs, and you can taste the difference in every carton.
Cranbrook Grown, WA Proud
Our family farm is tucked away in Cranbrook, in the south of Western Australia—where clean air, open skies and untouched pasture create the perfect environment for happy, healthy hens. This region gives us the space and natural conditions to farm the way we believe in: regeneratively, respectfully and with deep connection to the land. It’s a place where our family feels at home, and where every egg begins its journey.
Our (free-range) Eggs
Every single Ford Family Free Range Eggs is laid on our farms, by our chickens. We don’t buy eggs from other producers to sell under our brand. Because of this, we guarantee the freshness, age, and quality of every egg we sell.

At Ford Family Free Range Eggs, we farm a little differently. Our hens live in self-designed mobile shelters that move across fresh pasture, giving every flock clean ground and room to roam. -
WA’s best chefs choose our eggs for one simple reason: they perform beautifully in the kitchen. From richer yolks to cleaner whites and reliable consistency, our eggs hold their shape, lift recipes and elevate flavour. Chefs trust us because they know our hens are raised ethically, healthily and with care—qualities that translate directly into better cooking results, whether you’re baking, frying or poaching. And that same chef-approved quality is now available for your home cooking, too.

Our shelters are fully powered by solar panels with battery storage for night-time use. Inside, automated systems control lighting, temperature, feeding, nesting and even free-range door access—creating a stable, comfortable environment for the hens while minimising stress. Because the shelters rotate across the paddock, each flock receives fresh ground and clean conditions, improving soil health and reducing the need for chemicals or antibiotics. It’s a smarter, gentler way of farming that puts hen wellbeing first.

Our family farm is located in Cranbrook in the south of Western Australia—an area known for its clean air, open landscapes and ideal farming conditions. This environment allows us to run our true rotational system, plant tens of thousands of trees and give our hens the freedom and space they need to thrive. Cranbrook’s climate also supports healthier birds and better pastures, contributing to the high-integrity, nutrient-dense eggs we’re proud to produce.

Eggshell colour is influenced mainly by the breed of the hen and natural pigmentation—it isn’t a measure of quality. Our hens lay tan-coloured eggs as part of their genetics, and the shade can vary from darker to lighter tan even within the same flock. As hens age and begin laying larger eggs, the brown pigment naturally appears lighter because it’s spread more thinly across the shell. What never changes is the consistency, freshness and quality inside—thanks to the pasture access, excellent nutrition and care our birds receive every day.
